ABOUT THE NESS H200
1/17/06
The NESS H200 - a neuroprosthetic and rehabilitation (NP&R) system—is designed to increase functional use of the hand and to minimize impairments and complications associated with central nervous system injuries.
Stroke, spinal-cord injuries and other disorders of the central nervous system are the most frequent cause of long-term disability. These disorders often result in impairment of muscle control, reduced functional abilities, spasticity and loss of strength. Secondary complications occur in an estimated 80 percent of patients. When the upper-limb is involved, these complications include contractures, edema, pain in the hand and shoulder, as well as limb neglect due to learned nonuse, all of which lead to further deterioration in the quality of life. The outcome of many years of research, the NESS H200 was developed to help patients maximize their functional abilities, and to treat impairments and complications associated with central nervous system disorders.
The device incorporates and integrates a number of upper-limb rehabilitation modalities in a single system, bringing the latest clinical laboratory research and expertise into the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and the homes of patients for independent use.

The NESS H200 is an exoskeletal device worn on the hand and forearm. The device includes five electrodes positioned above certain muscles responsible for different forms of movement. Once the NESS H200 is fitted, it controls the function of the hand by a coordinated stimulation of nerves and muscles. The comfortable positioning of the hand by the exoskeleton device, together with the functional microprocessor-controlled activation of otherwise paralyzed muscles, is designed to improve hand function for those who have experienced a stroke or C5 spinal cord injury.

The NESS H200 is ergonomically designed and aesthetically pleasing. It can be put on and removed by its user, even if both hands are impaired. Its firm structure assures accurate and effortless positioning of the electrodes over their designated locations each time it is worn. The controls are well designed and easy to use.
Who’s a Candidate
The NESS H200 system was developed to treat and prevent impairments and complications associated with disorders and injuries to the central nervous system. People with impaired upper-limb muscle control, loss of strength and reduced functional abilities (often associated with spasticity) may be candidates for this pioneering technology. The only way to determine if the NESS H200 is the right rehabilitation therapy for you is to contact your physician or rehabilitation medical specialist.
