On August 19, 2006—a party was held for me in Boca Raton, Florida. There were approximately 150 guests that attended that evening. A close high school friend shared a fact about my injury that he was hesitant to tell me over the past two years. He knew one of the two gentlemen that rescued me from the ocean on the day of my accident. I was excited to learn the name of this gentleman and his willingness to speak with me. Several days later, I received a call from Roger. He expressed how happy he was to learn of my well being and my ongoing rehabilitation process. The only thing Roger asked for was for me to keep working every day to achieve all of my goals that I set forth in front of me. I had a chance to reflect on our conversation. I wanted Roger to realize that he gave me the greatest gift one could ask for, which was a second chance at life. While Roger chose to remain anonymous, he is the definition of a true hero.
I will keep him in my daily prayers, as I have been told that I am in his.
